1 Brian Brindle and Bob Dobson Accrington Observed
Blackpool, UK Landy Publishing 1994 1-872895-23-9 / 9781872895239 First Card Wraps Fine  History 8"x 11" Approx
Accrington Observed came about when two school pals (1950s Accrington Grammar School) got together to look at photos of their home town. They realised that their joint collections were worthy of being presented as a book. More photographs were loaned by friends and by Accrington Library and the result is this book. Brian Brindle and Bob Dobson have tried to present a visual record of the many facets of Accrington (and of its close neighbours too). They have tried to give some historical details to accompany the views and generally to give a flavour of the town - some old adverts for bygone businesses add to this. In this they are observers of the town's past. A love of Accrington runs through this book. Everyone calling him (or her) self an Accrington lad (or lass) will enjoy and treasure it. Every page is like a best quality brick - they each bear the word "ACCRINGTON" in large letters, telling the world of the pride there is in being an Accringtonian. There's no other town in the world with the same name - Accrington is unique.

4 Ru Zhijuan, Huang Zongying, Zong Pu, Shen Rong, Zhang Jie, Zhang Kangkang, Wang Anyi Seven Contemporary Chinese Women Writers
Beijing Panda Books 1983 Reprint Mass Market Paperback Very Good Fiction
Inscription to a previous owner inside, otherwise a near fine copy. This is a selection of stories and reportage by seven contemporary Chinese women writers with a wide spectrum of experience. They present a good cross-section of life in China, writing mainly about the later part of the seventies, although looming large in the background is the "cultural revolution" which disrupted countless lives. With honesty, courage and sensibility they show us the new generation gap in the China of the early 1980s, the cynicism of some of the youth, the avid pursuit of knowledge and skills of others, the difficulties of young married couples in over-crowded cities, or of professional women who want at the same time to be good wives and mothers. A reporter describes her painstaking investigations to right a long-standing injustice. These themes, realistically dealt with, project the quality of life in China, the comradeship and love which lighten difficulties, and the growing sense of value of the individual.
