The dj is somewhat soiled, especially down the spine, slightly worn, with a one inch tear at the top of the front cover. A copy of the cover is available via e-mail on request. The book has 7 colour plates and numerous b&w illustrations. Sport is as much a part of the English character as the inn is of English life. They make the perfect union, being complementary to each other as good partners should be. For who would go fishing on a bright May morning when the river slides in sunlight over waving reeds and gravelly shallows, unless he hoped not merely to catch a fish, but to see the sun shine golden on beer most lucent at the midday hour? Printed for John Murray, Albemarle Street on high quality heavy paper. Blue boards. Gilt title to the spine - slightly faded. Mild fading to the front board where book has been exposed to light while positioned on shelf next to a smaller book. 100 rough cut pages. The name 'Preston Institution 1928' is stamped to the title page and repeated 21 times throughout the book. Rather than defacing the pages these stamps sre generally in the margins and add a somewhat 'aged' character to the book. very clean ffep - some 'dusty marks to the first title page, the third free page has age foxing, the main title page has some 'dusty marks' to the page edge. All the pages are firm and very readable. Some dusty edges throughout. To the inner board is a small neat stamp - 1300 and a pencil number E6/26. Printed by W Bulmer and Co, Cleveland, St.James.

Beginning with early photographs the book moves on to the game as we know it today , and captures many unguarded moments of the game , both on the tennis court and off court. A fabulously big book - 160 quality pages ( the first inner page has a mild surface crease , now straightened out ) - each one filled with excellent photos and a small descriptive text. The jacket is in very good condition and is now in a protected wrapper. A must for any tennis fan.
