1 Doris Leslie Peridot Flight: a Novel Reconstructed from the Memoirs of Peridor, Lady Mulvarnie (1872-1955)
Charing Cross Road, London The Book Club 1950 Book Club Hard Cover Good+  Good+ Historical Fiction Philip Gough
Undated, but some time in the 1950s. Binding green cloth with black lettering on spine; some minor shelfwear; edge of pages lightly tanning. Dj has some mild shelfwear, with a small piece missing from the base of the spine, with a beautiful, evocative cover painting by Philip Gough of an Edwardian lady in an open-topped veteran car. Now protected inside a cover. Doris Leslie narrates her story with that same insight, humour and superb sense of period that earned her a world-wide accalim. The subsidiary characters include some diabolically clever studies of fin-de-siecle celebrities, who, poised against a background of London, Paris and Florence, lend compelling authenticity to this vital panorama of social life in the 'nineties, and the first decade of the twentieth century.

2 Doris Leslie Polonaise
London The Book Club 1944 Book Club Hard Cover Very Good  Very Good Historical Fiction
DJ has some edgeware, but is fully intact and, considering the book as published to "War Economy Standards", in a fairly colourful condition with only very slight fading on the spine. Its pages are clean with no sign of tanning. Based on the true life story of Chopin. Warsaw, Paris in the 1830s, the Balearic Islands, Scotland and Paris again during the revolution of 1848. This is the authentic and varied background against which is recreated the boyhood, early loves, youthful struggles and later triumphs of the great composer. But that which gives this book its most notable significance is the ultimate portrayal of the love-story of Chopin and the novelist, Aurore Dudevant, known to posterity as "George Sand"- two immortal figures of romance in an age justly called "Romantic".
