Title: The Mansion Binding: Hard Cover Book Condition: Very Good Jacket Condition: Very Good Type: Fiction Edition: Book Club Publisher: London The Reprint Society 1962 Seller ID: 001790
DJ is in excellent condition with hardly any signs of wear; clean and bright with a wonderfully atmospheric cover illustration drawn in black and dark green. Black boards binding with green at the spine and a dark red label with gilt lettering. Pages are clean and tight with just the very faintest hint of foxing towards the bottom edge of the pages. The Mansion is a memorable book. The two main stories in the book are the determination of Mink (a low-grade, poor white doing a life sentence for murder) to kill his powerful cousin Flem Snopes, now the town's big man, for not pulling strings to rescue Mink from his conviction; and the interweaving and avoidance between the lawyer, Gavin, and Flem's daughter Linda. The relationship between these two, with all the intricacies of the past as well as the present, is beautifully done.
